Candidates acquiring valuable knowledge
Last fall, Century 21 Seller’s Choice in St. John’s took an unprecedented step in providing complete orientation and training in real estate.
Gordon Hiscock, Broker/Owner says that over the ensuing five months, his company’s Success Real Estate Academy has been moving forward, bringing prospective real estate agents together with resource people drawn from varied areas of expertise.
“Training sessions started immediately at the launch of our Academy,” says Hiscock. “We have brought in visiting instructors and others who will be regular presenters. I think all agree that this initiative will prove to be an asset in advancing the knowledge-base and overall professionality of real estate agents here.
Some of the resource people
In late March 2018, Doug Thompson, motivational speaker with Floyd Wickman Systems made a two-day presentation in St. John’s. Each seven-hour day was a highly motivating experience. “We teach the bottom-half of an organization’s agents to become the top half!” says Thompson. His in-class presentation is supplemented by a video course by which agent-candidates can continue to move forward.
Local real estate company owner Debbie Hanlon, who is also a St. John’s City
Councillor, brings two presentations to Success Academy sessions, “All systems go” and “Real estate for the real world”. As well, Hanlon has added a social media component to her presentations. She says that one reason she is a strong believer in the Century21 brand is that “they emphasize training so much.” Hanlon is also recruiting potential agents for Century21.
The internationally-known Dale Carnegie organization, through local representative Mark Baldwin conducts sessions for candidates registering with Success Real Estate Academy. Baldwin notes, “the webinar we present is based on the stat that 15% of your success is dependent on your technical knowledge while 85% is determined by your ability to motivate and inspire people.” And that, Baldwin adds, “is as true in real estate as it is in any business!”
Charlie Harris of Century 21 Seller’s Choice says the Academy is affiliated with
Century 21 Canada. This makes available locally the company’s Kick-Start a Career program as well as courses in the curriculum of Century21 University. The affiliation also provides access to resource people such as trainer and webinar presenter Tracey Anderson of Winnipeg and three names synonymous with North America’s highest achievement levels in the industry, Rob Vivian, Mike Ferry and Brian Buffini.
THERE IS NO TUITION CHARGE to attend Success Real Estate Academy. Training sessions are held at Century 21 Seller’s Choice building, Duffy Place, St. John’s. Guidance can be offered for candidates wishing to obtain their REALTORS® license (manuals and study guides may be obtained from the Newfoundland & Labrador Association of REALTORS®). Examinations as specified under Provincial Government regulations are given twice-monthly at The College of the North Atlantic.
