15 chil­dren res­cued from schooner that ran aground

MYS­TIC, Conn. — The Coast Guard has res­cued 15 chil­dren among other pas­sen­gers from a schooner that ran aground off Con­necti­cut.

The 126-foot schooner Alabama had 15 chil­dren, two adult chap­er­ones and five crew mem­bers aboard when it ran aground near the mouth of the Mys­tic River on Sun­day evening.

A New Lon­don-based Coast Guard crew trans­ferred the pas­sen­gers to the Noank Ship­yard in Gro­ton. No in­juries were re­ported.

The cause of the ac­ci­dent is un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion. In­ves­ti­ga­tors will ex­am­ine the ves­sel to make sure it’s safe be­fore it op­er­ates again.
