Re­mem­ber­ing the Cari­bou

Satur­day, Oct. 14, marks the 75th an­niver­sary of one of the worst ma­rine dis­as­ters in New­found­land and Labrador his­tory. On that day in 1942, the S.S. Cari­bou was tor­pe­doed by the Ger­man sub­ma­rine U-69. Of the 237 crew, civil­ians and mil­i­tary per­son­nel on board, 136 peo­ple — in­clud­ing 10 chil­dren — lost their lives.
