Travelling cancer patients invited to stay at Red Bay home

A generous Red Bay couple is offering their guest bedroom to patients travelling for cancer treatments.

And the service is free. Josh Nolan and Chris Bridle of Red Bay are well aware of the difficulties patients from Labrador face. They know travel and accommodations can be expensive for people travelling down from the Big Land and on to St. John’s.

Nolan himself is acquainted with their experience, having lost his grandmother to cancer in 2007.

“Losing someone who was very close to me to cancer has shown me how many are in need for just that extra helping hand,” said Nolan.

So, when they bought their home and finished renovating it, Nolan and Bridle decided they could offer up their guest bedroom for a night or two to help ease the financial burden somewhat for travelling cancer patients.

“I always believed in helping others whenever possible, so a cozy, warm, clean room that doesn’t cost a dime will hopefully take some worry away,” said Nolan.

The guest bedroom is furnished with a double bed. Nolan says every day they would have fresh sheets.

There’s a television in the room and a phone. Guests would have access to a kitchen, laundry, a shared bathroom and Wifi.

Guests would be responsible for their own food.

Nolan and Bridle are accepting two guests maximum at a time.

The home is built next to the water with landscaping and flowerbeds to take in. A gazebo and a fire pit are located next to the water.

For those who have allergies, Nolan says, the couple has two cats, but they are “very old and lazy.”

They recently started getting the word out on Facebook. While no one has availed of the free room yet, Nolan says a number of people have started thanking them for the gesture.
