One dead in vehicle fire near Deer Lake

DEER LAKE — The RCMP in Deer Lake is investigating the death of person in a vehicle fire that occurred near the town on Monday.

A news release from the RCMP says police responded to the vehicle fire in a wooded area off the Transcanada Highway east of Deer Lake just before 2 p.m. The fire was extinguished without spreading beyond the vehicle.

The RCMP and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are investigating the sudden death. No gender or age was provided.

Police were assisted in the matter by provincial forestry personnel, the Deer Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the Deer Lake Ground Search and Rescue.
