Probation stems from roughing up boyfriend

-

If your girlfriend wants to spend more time with her family while visiting Niagara Falls, grant her the request, especially if she is trained in martial arts. A 47-year-old Alberta man came out on the losing end of an argument with his girlfriend while staying at the Clifton Victoria Inn. Sandra Chambers, 47, received a conditional discharge and was placed on probation for 12 months after being convicted of assault in Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines on Monday. Chambers, who lives in Alberta and will soon return to live in London, Ont., was not present in court during the proceedings, but a guilty plea was entered on her behalf by defence lawyer Kim Vanderlee. Assistant Crown attorney Stacey Sheehan told court an argument broke out at about 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2015, when Chamber’s boyfriend told her she was spending too much time with her family. Chambers, who is trained in martial arts, struck the boyfriend in the face six times, punched him in the stomach three or four times, and then flipped him on his back. Once the boyfriend was down, Chambers asked him if he had enough, to which he replied yes. The boyfriend fled the inn in a rental vehicle and Chambers was arrested and charged at a later date. Sheehan said the victim received bruises to his ribs that lasted about six weeks. Court heard the five-year relationship is over.
