Mary Doris (nee Brewer) Burke

Mom was born October 6, 1920 and grew up in In­go­nish. Af­ter a brief ill­ness, she passed away peace­fully sur­rounded by her lov­ing fam­ily at the Cape Bre­ton Regional Hos­pi­tal on Septem­ber 24, 2017. Mom was a de­vout Catholic and a mem­ber of the CWL for over 50 years. In her ear­lier years, she liked to travel to Florida with dad and spend her sum­mers in In­go­nish where they owned the Carol Ann Restau­rant for 25 years. In re­cent years, mom loved to keep up with cur­rent events by reading; also en­joyed knit­ting and word puz­zles, along with vis­its from fam­ily and friends. She is sur­vived by three daugh­ters, Joyce (Robert) Marra, Carol (Jack) Hors­ley, On­tario and Anita (Al­lan Chisholm); three sons, Arnold (Dianne Raoul), James (Doreen) and Al­lan (Donna), In­go­nish, and god­daugh­ter, Mary Lou Au­coin. Also, sur­vived by 18 grand­chil­dren, 28 great grand­chil­dren, 2 great great grand­chil­dren, and brother-in-law, Pat Burke in Toronto. Mom was the last sur­viv­ing mem­ber of her im­me­di­ate fam­ily.

Mom was pre­de­ceased by her lov­ing hus­band, James W. Burke in 1995; son, David in 2007, and daugh­ter-in-law, Jean in 1993. Fu­neral Mass was cel­e­brated on Septem­ber 29 at St. Mar­guerite Bour­geoys Church with Fr. Bill Burke of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial in Res­ur­rec­tion Ceme­tery, Syd­ney Forks.
