The Victoria Standard - - Commentary - FROM THE EDITOR

The Victoria Standard has named three individuals to serve on its first-ever Editorial Advisory Panel - Maureen Googoo, owner/editor of Ku’ku’kwes (www.kukukwes. com), a news website covering Indigenous news in Atlantic Canada; Ian Macneil, President of Real Media Consulting and former host of CBC’S Cape Breton Information Morning; and Dan Chiasson, retired lawyer and Communications Director for the Baddeck Volunteer Fire Department.

The volunteer panel is tasked with meeting quarterly to review the editorial content of The Standard and to provide guidance on the overall direction of the publication. Panelists have agreed to review each issue of The Standard and are available for consultation should the editorial team require outside input between regularly-scheduled reviews.

“We are extremely grateful for the time these professionals have agreed to give to help make The Victoria Standard an ever-reliable news source for the readers of Victoria County and beyond.”

The Victoria Standard announced in February that it would be naming an editorial advisory panel. The other commitment made by The Standard at that time was to release a set of editorial policies and guidelines to provide its readership with a clear understanding of the rules under which the publication operates. Those documents are currently being finalized and reviewed by the panel and will be posted to The Victoria Standard’s website (www.victoriastandard.ca) in the coming weeks.
