Mary Ryan, Judy Macdon­ald, Mary Ni­chol­son, Deb­bie Bell, Matthew Carmichael, Keith Ryan and Con­nor Maceach­ern are pic­tured here (l-to-r) tak­ing part in the Rise & Shine Pro­gram run by Carmichael, a na­tive Bad­decker and Aca­dia Univer­sity ki­ne­si­ol­ogy stu­dent. The pro­gram is avail­able to peo­ple of all ages and runs Tues­day/thurs­day morn­ings, 8-9am, start­ing at the Baddeck Li­brary, the pro­gram’s spon­sor. Par­tic­i­pants be­gin with 20-minute walk, fol­lowed by a stretch­ing and strength­en­ing rou­tine us­ing free weights and bungee cords and ex­er­cises such as stair climb­ing and wall­sits. Carmichael was in­spired to launch the pro­gram from ob­serv­ing the suc­cess of the Ac­tive Aging pro­grams in Wolfville, NS. Mary and Keith Ryan stay ac­tive with Rise & Shine as well as chair yoga at Alder­wood and weekly med­i­ta­tion at the Baddeck Li­brary.
