I was dis­ap­pointed in Ja­son Guriel’s “The Case Against Read­ing Ev­ery­thing” ( the­wal­rus. in which he ar­gues that young writ­ers shouldn’t be en­cour­aged to read widely be­cause most writ­ing isn’t worth con­sum­ing.

In fact, all the lit­er­a­ture Guriel dis­misses is writ­ten by peo­ple from a va­ri­ety of back­grounds and ad­vise us on the sto­ries we tell and the way we tell them.
