Atom Generals hold off Burlington

-

The Niagara Generals turned in a solid effort en route to a 21-6 victory over the Burlington Stampeders in atom football.

Jayden Guru-MacDonald, Lucas Hazelton and Alex Dieudonne all had touchdowns while Marcus Tsanoff contributed a field goal and point after.

Braiden Genest added an interception.

“Today was a great day for our atom generals,” coach Jim Storin said. “We took it to Burlington and our defence was dominant once again. We managed to strip Burlington for one fumble and interception. What a great defensive showcase to hold Burlington to one major score.

“Our offence found its groove by scoring two majors and one threepoint conversion. To add to our score our offence we went deep into the playbook and pulled off an onside punt and returned it for a touchdown.”

The Generals take on the Cambridge Lions next.

The tyke Generals dropped a 45-36 decision to the Port Dover Steelheads.

Lucas Panucci, Eston Thomas and Marco Angelini all collected a pair of touchdowns for the Generals.

“We had an amazing effort from our tyke team today,” assistant coach Bruce Macrae said. “Our offence was throwing great blocks with Lucas Panucci, Cameron Macrae, Marco Angelini and Raphael Robinson all holding back the defence. Our defence was holding them to the backfield and causing them to run out of bounds. Spencer Macrae displayed an amazing heart and shows size does not matter as he was tackling kids twice his size.”

The bantam Generals lost 41-7 to the Hamilton Junior TiCats and were eliminated.

Sebastian Brown had a touchdown and extra point.

The peewee Generals had a bye and will meet the Durham Dolphins at home next week.
