M. Owen ’em down in 5-pin pro league

Mike Owen was a model of consistenc­y as he lit up the lanes for his best series of this Niagara Five Pin Mixed Pro League season, rolling a stupendous 904 (285, 318, 301) to lead the Scott Street Pete’s Pizza Pepperonis to a 2-1 win over the Lakeside Electrical Lightning.

Owen had help from Shawn Pellizari’s steady 729 (233, 287) and Rob Fisher’s 656 (240, 221).

The Lightning struck back with Tyler Wendel’s 811 (242, 280, 289) and Wendy Bonnette’s 694 (268, 247).

In other matches, the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Town Criers took two of three from the Crossfire Wrestling Piledriver­s. Valerie Vallee took the reins for the winners firing a sizzling 856 (290, 263, 303) set while being pushed along by Dan Stup’s 711 (218, 292).

The Piledriver­s returned fire with Brian McFarlane’s 758 (283, 285).

In the evening’s closest match, decided by only four pins, the Host Pub & Grill Half Pints edged the Smith’s Home Services Ravens 2-1. Tracy Smith had the hot hand for the Half Pints tossing a solid 816 (226, 284, 306) while getting backup from Sarah Stevens’ 758 (314, 241, 203).

The Ravens answered with Riekie Dutcher’s 795 (271, 266, 258) and Rich Vassos’ 680 (241, 224).

In another close one, decided by 67 pins, the Wine Place Whiners knocked off the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks 2-1. Matt Burghall continued his recent hot streak, leading the winners with a stellar 817 (213, 292, 312) while being helped along by Chris Disher’s 696 (309) and Al Gaudet’s 692 (269).

The Canucks replied with Tim Dixon’s 733 (249, 270), Dave Pendlebury’s 729 (254, 248) and Matt Vendittell­i’s 704 (268, 249).

In the evening ’s final match, the Ferguson-Neudorf Glass Glaziers edged the Church Street Pete’s Pizza Panzerotti­s 2-1. Chantal Papineau took charge for her squad, leading the Panzerotti­s with a blistering 849 (248, 245, 356), while P.J. Cole checked in with 683 (252, 238).
