Alexis Hebert, Niagara College’s top female athlete for the week ending Sunday, made a strong case for receiving the honour this week as well. On Wednesday the rookie goalkeeper made a game-saving stop to preserve a scoreless tie with the visiting Fanshawe Falcons in women’s soccer. Hebert’s fourth shutout in a row extended the Knights’ unbeaten string to five games and improved the team’s record to 3-3-2 with two games remaining in the regular season. She was assisted by a back line of Ashley Bruzzese, Shannon Halliday, Lauren Frasca and Genny Fick. “The back four were outstanding, they limited the Falcons to chances only from a distance for most of the game,” Niagara head coach Rob Lalama said. “Fanshawe (7-0-1) showed why they’re undefeated. “They are a very good team. I’m proud of how we competed today.” The Knights host the St. Clair Saints, 5-2-1; in a 2 p.m. kickoff Saturday at Youngs Sportsplex on River Road in Welland. — Bernd Franke, Postmedia News
