7- Eleven cashier gets into tus­sle with rob­ber

A St. Catharines con­ve­nience store rob­ber who got into a strug­gle with a cashier over a car­ton of cig­a­rettes is sought by Ni­a­gara Re­gional Po­lice.

Shortly af­ter mid­night Tues­day, po­lice were called to a rob­bery that had just oc­curred at the 7- Eleven store at 104 Lake St. A lone man en­tered the store, then asked the cashier for a car­ton of cig­a­rettes, said a po­lice me­dia re­lease. The two be­gan to strug­gle with the car­ton of cig­a­rettes when the male man­aged to re­move one pack­age from the car­ton.

When the clerk failed to meet the sus­pect’s de­mands for the re­main­der of the car­ton he pro­duced a weapon from his pocket.

The sus­pect ran off with a quan­tity of mer­chan­dise, said the re­lease. He was last seen run­ning on Louisa Street to­ward Henry Street near Wel­land Av­enue.

The clerk did not sus­tain any in­juries as a re­sult of the in­ci­dent, po­lice said.

The sus­pect is de­scribed as 30 to 40 years of age, about 5- foot- 11 with a skinny build. He was wear­ing a black baseball hat, black heavy sweater/ jacket and dark pants.
