Flynn Canada Limited has been charged with violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations in relation to an incident at the site of the Paul Reynolds Community Centre in St. John’s in September 2015.

The charges come after an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Division of Service NL.

The incident involved work on the roof while the building was under construction. A worker suffered injuries when he fell through an opening in the roof to the ground below.

The company is facing three charges in relation to its alleged failure: provide a safe workplace; ensure that workers were made familiar with hazards; and ensure that temporary flooring was installed at the work area.

The company made its first appearance in provincial court at St. John’s on Tuesday.
