Ronald Smith charged with Benoit’s Cove video store robbery
A Bay of Islands man has been charged with last week’s robbery of Evoy’s Video in Benoit’s Cove. Ronald Smith, 49, appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook on Friday morning. He’s been charged with robbery with violence, forcible confinement and being disguised with intent. Smith was released following the appearance after making a personal pledge to the court of $2,000. Conditions of his release include that he reside in John’s Beach (his current address was not mentioned in court).
A press release issued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Corner Brook later Friday said that Smith’s arrest came as a result of an investigation by its serious crime unit.
It’s alleged Smith entered the story at 9 p.m. on Jan. 4 with his face covered and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Smith’s next court appearance has been set for Jan. 30.
