Regional police launch safety blitz

-

THE WATERLOO REGIONAL POLICE Service will be joining police services across Canada in participating in the fall seatbelt campaign and Operation Impact. These annual nation-wide enforcement and education initiatives focus on saving lives by aggressively targeting drivers who engage in life threatening behaviours while driving their vehicles, say police.

From Sept. 26 to Oct. 7, WRPS officers will be targeting drivers who continue to drive without using their seatbelts. Last year, WRPS officers charged 155 drivers with seatbelt-related offences.

Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, our officers will also be engaging in Operation Impact. This initiative focuses enforcement efforts on the four main collision causing factors: distracted driving, aggressive driving, seatbelt use and impaired driving. From Oct. 7 to 10, officers will be out on area roadways targeting drivers demonstrating these high risk behaviours.
