Sittler banner ceremony Saturday
As part of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ banner tour, the banner that hung at Air Canada Centre honouring Darryl Sittler will make its way to the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market on Saturday.
On opening night 2016, the Maple Leafs unveiled new banners that now hang in Air Canada Centre and pay tribute to the players that have had their numbers retired. Beginning in August of 2016, and concluding by the December 19 “Next Century game,” 19 original Air Canada Centre banners will be delivered to the towns that these players called home. The Sittler banner is the 13th to be delivered as part of the banner tour, the team said in a release last week. “St. Jacobs market is thrilled to have been chosen by Darryl Sittler as the home for his banner, and we are so proud to pay tribute to his legacy by permanently displaying it here,” said Sheila Shantz, the market’s director of operations.
Sittler will attend a brief unveiling ceremony October 14 at 8 a.m. in the main market building.
