Winterbourne residents seek conveyance

The Woolwich Observer - - NEWS -

Acting on a request from some Winterbourne residents, Woolwich will look into closing an unused road allowance in order to convey the land to the adjacent property owners.

Stephanie Martin and her Allan Street neighbour Marg Minister made their pitch to Woolwich councillors meeting Monday Night, asking for action on a portion of the former Stock Street – long unused and overgrown – between their properties.

That stretch of land has a very steep grade and is unlikely to be ever used as a roadway, they argued, noting a similar conveyance was done some years ago on nearby Geddes Street.

In response to a question from Coun. Larry Shantz, director of engineering and planning Dan Kennaley said the next step will be for planning staff to look at the request to decide if conveyance is advisable. At that point, the township would have to begin the formal process of declaring the land surplus before looking at selling the land to the residents.

He expects to come back with a report for the December 12 meeting.
