9:00 AM | Wellington County OPP responded to an animal complaint when a driver on Highway 6, Kenilworth, observed a small lion cub on the side of the road. Officers attended but the animal was gone. Police identified the keepers of the lion and discovered that it had escaped its enclosure near the point last seen. Officers and the owners searched for approximately an hour and located the cub a short distance from its pen. The 60-pound cub was unharmed and returned to its enclosure. The owner is making arrangements to further protect the young lioness. 11:00 PM | A Moorefield man is facing charges related to drinking and driving. Members of the Wellington County OPP were patrolling Wellington Road 7 south of Rothsay when they stopped a grey SUV and while speaking with the driver formed the opinion that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing. The 26-year-old man was then charged with ‘driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood.’ A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on June 29.
