Raceway decision had an upside

The Woolwich Observer - - COMMENT - NYLE BAUMAN | ELMIRA

To the Editor, I AM CONTINUALLY PERTURBED by the fact that The Observer finds it necessary to repeatedly publish the earnings that Centre Wellington receives from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLGC) revenue.

Why can you not accept the fact that more than 15 years ago a democratic process was followed, the taxpayers of Woolwich spoke and the Woolwich council of the day chose not to facilitate the building of a gaming establishment in the township?

Perhaps you could do a study on how many homes have been built on the former Woolwich Agricultural Society property, along with the tax and spinoff revenue generated from those residents living in Elmira. While it may not match the $30.2 million that Centre Wellington has received from the OLGC, I am sure that it is no small sum.
