CRIME-SOLVING COMEDIANS

Thornhill Post - - Arts -

Don Knotts

The original comedian turned police investigator, Knotts’ portrayal of bumbling deputy sheriff Barney Fife (pictured above) on The Andy Griffith Show is still one of the best.

Peter Sellers

It is impossible to talk about funny on-screen detectives and not mention Sellers as Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther film series. So good.

Steve Martin

Comic legend might have underwhelmed as Inspector Clouseau, but his turn as the goofy gumshoe in Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid is classic.

Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks

In 1987, these two comic actors spoofed the ’50s detective series Dragnet to mixed reviews but some solid laughs, and it scores high in campy.
