The overlords of Canada’s underworld

Thornhill Post - - NEWS -

Pacific Mall, a mall located at Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue East and the largest Chinese mall in the western world, has carried with it a long-held reputation for counterfeit merchandise. Over the years, the 275,000-squarefoot mall has come under numerous raids by the RCMP for its counterfeit and pirated goods, including counterfeit cosmetics, sunglasses, DVD movies and video games. In January of this year, a report from the Office of the United States Trade Representative listed Pacific Mall as one of the most notorious markets of pirated and counterfeit goods in the world, joining markets like the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul and the Silk Market in Beijing. It’s the only Canadian market on the list.

THE PIRATE’S LIFE A 2006 raid by the RCMP resulted in 49,000 pirated DVDs seized.
