On Sunday, Aug. 12, at around 1:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to a jewellery store on Promenade Circle regarding a reported robbery.

Police are looking for three male suspects. According to a York Regional Police ( YRP) media release and confirmed by Const. Laura Nicolle, the three suspects entered the store, browsed several items and left without making a purchase. They returned five minutes later, all wearing their hoods up. With the help of a tire iron, they smashed the showcase, taking several items with them.

YRP officers are struggling to identify these suspects for an interesting reason. The blame falls on what appears to be outdated surveillance equipment.

YRP Hold-Up Unit officers have urged business owners everywhere to maintain and update video surveillance equipment in their stores. This will ensure that high-quality images can be used to better identify suspects. Quality images tremendously help investigators in making arrests as well as providing substantial evidence during court proceedings.

The investigation is still ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information relating to this case to contact the YRP Hold-Up Unit
