Wilmot Aces successful at Walker Invitational
The Wilmot Aquatic Aces had a busy Oct. 27-28 weekend at the Brock University Pool.
The swim team had the best Joe Kerkhoven Memorial Walker Invitational they have ever had finishing second behind a strong Clarington team in overall standings. Host team Brock University was third.
The Wilmot girls team finished third overall and the men’s team finished second.
Woodstock’s Kara Haringa took aim at the club records breaking four in her six races. Winning all six individual races, she helped the 10-and-under girls to gold in both the relays. Kara finished the meet with six gold medals and qualified for the Festival provincial championships in February.
Silas Campbell, also 10, set a new club record in the 10-and-under boys 50 free. He also won all three of his races and helped his relay to a gold in the free relay. Silas also qualified for Festivals.
Emma-Jane Fowler was on a mission to match her teammates in winning all her events. Emma, who just recently turned 13, won all six individual events and help her relays to 2nd and 3rd.
Matthew VanDeWynckel, 12, also set a new club record in the 100 breaststroke while winning medals in three of his events and helping his relay team break a club record and win a 1st and 2nd.
Luka Tomic, 13, broke the 50 bk club record as lead off in the medley relay, the team broke both club records in the relays as well. Luka won gold in 100 fly, silver in 200 back and 200 fly and bronze in 100 back and 200 free.
Mia Tomic, 9, broke the 100 back record and won gold in the 50 bk and 100 bk, silver in 100 br, 100 IM, and 50 free. Mia was on both the gold medal relays as well.
In the premier event the ‘WALKER 400,’ the fastest 16 entry times in the 400 free go head-tohead to win the event. Makayla Duff was the only female swimmer in the event and won the first heat to give her a 5th overall finish.
In the men’s 400 Ethan Scheerer won the first heat finishing 8th overall while teammate Ryan Bossy finished in 7th overall. Luka Tomic was 10th and Tillsonburg’s Zan Papakakos was 15th

Sadie Black: Silver in 50 br and bronze in 100 br.
Austin Heinbuch: silver in 100 br and bronze in 50 br.
Emma Heinbuch bronze in 200 br.
Otterville’s Kendra Hussey silver in 100 fr.
Brayden Mann: Gold in 100 bk and 100 fr , silver in 200 bk, bronze in 200 fr and 200 IM.
Zachary Mann: Gold in 50 fly, 100 bk and 50 bk, silver in 100 fr and bronze in 100 IM and 50 fr.
Westley Martin Root: Gold in 200 br, silver in 100 br.
Adi Motorca: Silver in 50 br. Corina Motorca: Gold in 100 br. Tess Weyers: Gold in 50 br, bronze in 50 bk.
