Wil­mot Aces suc­cess­ful at Walker In­vi­ta­tional

The Wil­mot Aquatic Aces had a busy Oct. 27-28 week­end at the Brock Univer­sity Pool.

The swim team had the best Joe Kerkhoven Memo­rial Walker In­vi­ta­tional they have ever had fin­ish­ing sec­ond be­hind a strong Clar­ing­ton team in over­all stand­ings. Host team Brock Univer­sity was third.

The Wil­mot girls team fin­ished third over­all and the men’s team fin­ished sec­ond.

Wood­stock’s Kara Haringa took aim at the club records break­ing four in her six races. Win­ning all six in­di­vid­ual races, she helped the 10-and-un­der girls to gold in both the re­lays. Kara fin­ished the meet with six gold medals and qual­i­fied for the Fes­ti­val pro­vin­cial cham­pi­onships in Fe­bru­ary.

Si­las Campbell, also 10, set a new club record in the 10-and-un­der boys 50 free. He also won all three of his races and helped his re­lay to a gold in the free re­lay. Si­las also qual­i­fied for Fes­ti­vals.

Emma-Jane Fowler was on a mis­sion to match her team­mates in win­ning all her events. Emma, who just re­cently turned 13, won all six in­di­vid­ual events and help her re­lays to 2nd and 3rd.

Matthew VanDeWynckel, 12, also set a new club record in the 100 breast­stroke while win­ning medals in three of his events and help­ing his re­lay team break a club record and win a 1st and 2nd.

Luka Tomic, 13, broke the 50 bk club record as lead off in the med­ley re­lay, the team broke both club records in the re­lays as well. Luka won gold in 100 fly, sil­ver in 200 back and 200 fly and bronze in 100 back and 200 free.

Mia Tomic, 9, broke the 100 back record and won gold in the 50 bk and 100 bk, sil­ver in 100 br, 100 IM, and 50 free. Mia was on both the gold medal re­lays as well.

In the premier event the ‘WALKER 400,’ the fastest 16 en­try times in the 400 free go head-to­head to win the event. Makayla Duff was the only fe­male swim­mer in the event and won the first heat to give her a 5th over­all fin­ish.

In the men’s 400 Ethan Scheerer won the first heat fin­ish­ing 8th over­all while team­mate Ryan Bossy fin­ished in 7th over­all. Luka Tomic was 10th and Tillsonburg’s Zan Pa­pakakos was 15th

13/14 boys Med­ley and Free re­lay: Luka Tomic, Milo Lju­bisic, Gracin Black and Bray­den VanDeWynckel.

11/12 boys free re­lay: Matthew VanDeWynckel, Bray­den Mann, West­ley Martin-Root and Tillsonburg’s Char­lie O’Leary. Other top three re­sults Gracin Black: Gold in 100 br and 200 br.

Sadie Black: Sil­ver in 50 br and bronze in 100 br.

Austin Hein­buch: sil­ver in 100 br and bronze in 50 br.

Emma Hein­buch bronze in 200 br.

Ot­ter­ville’s Ken­dra Hussey sil­ver in 100 fr.

Bray­den Mann: Gold in 100 bk and 100 fr , sil­ver in 200 bk, bronze in 200 fr and 200 IM.

Zachary Mann: Gold in 50 fly, 100 bk and 50 bk, sil­ver in 100 fr and bronze in 100 IM and 50 fr.

West­ley Martin Root: Gold in 200 br, sil­ver in 100 br.

Adi Mo­torca: Sil­ver in 50 br. Co­rina Mo­torca: Gold in 100 br. Tess Wey­ers: Gold in 50 br, bronze in 50 bk.
