Woman, 24, struck in crosswalk

-

A 24-year-old woman was taken to hospital in serious condition on Tuesday after being struck by a car in the middle of a crosswalk in Courtenay.

The woman, a local resident, was struck by a sport utility vehicle about 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of Ryan Road and Highway 19A, said RCMP Const. Rob Gardner. Police are investigating. Tuesday’s incident was the second time in three days that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle while in a crosswalk in the Comox Valley.

A 92-year-old man was struck Sunday evening in a crosswalk at Torrence Road and Guthrie Road. He died of his injuries.

Gardner reminds drivers to watch for other users on roads. He also urges pedestrians to look around carefully when going through a crosswalk and to make eye contact with drivers.
