UVic Vikes women beat Wes­men to earn week­end sweep

Kyra Teet­zen’s goal gave the Univer­sity of Vic­to­ria Vikes a 1-0 Canada West women’s vic­tory over the Univer­sity of Win­nipeg Wes­men in Satur­day night soc­cer ac­tion at Cen­ten­nial Sta­dium.

The Vikes moved to 3-1-1 on the sea­son af­ter a week­end sweep of the Univer­sity of Man­i­toba Bisons and Wes­men to make their case to move back into the U Sports na­tional top-10 poll. The Vikes fell out last week­end af­ter be­ing No. 9 the week be­fore.

In Canada West men’s soc­cer, the UVic Vikes (2-4-1) carry a two-game win­ning streak into to­day’s game against the Mount Royal Cougars of Calgary at 2 p.m. at Cen­ten­nial Sta­dium.

In women’s field-hockey, a goal by fresh­man Leina Dueck gave host UVic a 1-1 draw against the UBC Thun­der­birds in the open­ing game of the Canada West sea­son on Satur­day.

The na­tional pow­er­houses meet again to­day at 11 a.m. at UVic.
