Speeding car unleashes chaos in Port Alberni

Times Colonist - - The Capital / Island -

Port Alberni RCMP say a speeding car skidded out of control as it turned a downtown street corner about 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, hitting a curb and spinning around a flagpole before damaging several parked vehicles.

The car then crashed into a tree, causing the tree to fall and damage still more vehicles, including some in a usedcar lot.

Police said the car was travelling “well in excess” of the posted speed limit of 50 kilometres an hour.

The 46-year-old driver was unhurt, while the passenger was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver received a ticket for driving without due care and attention. Alcohol was not considered a factor.
