Opposition politicians behaving childishly
Re: “McKenna’s ‘climate Barbie’ faceoff with reporter generates strong reaction,” Nov. 5; “B.C. Speaker denounces use of fake titles,” Nov. 8.
Is there something about becoming the Opposition after having power that leads to age regression? A federal Conservative MP calls the federal environment minister “Climate Barbie,” and the Rebel persists in this childish name-calling.
Similarly, the B.C. Liberals entertain themselves by inventing childish insults for cabinet ministers. They are particularly hard on the Speaker, who denied them a “do-over” election.
Or maybe it’s because the Speaker aspires to raise the level of our legislature to, say, that of the Youth Parliament.
