TWO VENUES: The Mary Winspear Centre and the Sidney Museum July 8 to Sept. 4

Sidney Sculpture by the Sea is a two-month contemporary sculpture display that features more than 30 artists and an impressive variety of more than to 150 pieces of art. The Sidney Sculpture by the Sea show opened on July 8 at two venues – the Mary Winspear Centre and the Sidney Museum. The exhibit runs through early September. Both venues showcase sculptures of different sizes, mediums and images. Mediums include metal, marble, soapstone, bronze and wood. The heaviest piece weighs in at around 900 pounds. Most of the sculptures will be available for sale. With support from the Town of Sidney, the summer show will also highlight the many sculptures that line Sidney’s beautiful waterfront, Beacon Avenue and elsewhere around Town. These include the large unique collection of First Nations sculptures from artists across Canada housed at the Mary Winspear Centre. These, too, will be on display, adding cultural

richness and meaning to the festival. Toward the end of July, The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea will add to its outdoor sculpture display on the waterfront with a new, contemporary piece by master-carver, Temosën (Charles Elliot), whose work is found around the world.
