Eyesore removed from Quebec waterfront

The Kathryn Spirit, an abandoned ship that has loomed over the waterfront for seven years in Beauharnois, Que., was hauled away Friday after being dismantled. Built in 1967, the 150-metre-long ship hauled cargo. In 2011, a local company bought it with the idea of stripping it for scrap, but those plans went awry and the vessel wound up on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. The federal government spent $11 million to remove the ship from Beauharnois, part of the Greater Montreal Area.
