Gingerbread Showcase spread out in 12th year from Victoria to Sidney

-

The Gingerbread Showcase is back for its 12th year, raising money for Habitat for Humanity Victoria, but it looks a little different this time because of the pandemic.

The holiday event features 33 unique creations designed around the theme of Coastal Living, but instead of being all in one place, as in past years, they’re spread out through Victoria and Sidney.

You can take a tour through downtown Victoria and Sidney to view the edible creations, or just check them out online from home.

Vote for your favourite creation by volunteer bakers competing for the People’s Choice Award.

“Despite everything else that has been going on in the world, we really wanted to be able to continue to create some seasonal magic for families in a safe and meaningful way,” said Yolanda Meijer, CEO for Habitat for Humanity Victoria.

“We are so excited to be working again this year with the Parkside Hotel and Spa as well as nine new hosts in Downtown Victoria and Sidney to bring the showcase into the community for outdoor viewing.”

Hosts include The Parkside Hotel and Spa,

Tre Fantastico at The Parkside, The Chateau Victoria, The Marriott Inner Harbour, The DoubleTree and Vintage Spirits Downtown and Sidney Pier Hotel and Spa, Flush Bathroom and Travel Essentials, Seawards Gifts and Apparel and Peninsula Gallery in Sidney.

Funds raised from the event will go toward the construction of 10 new affordable homes for local families currently being built by Habitat Victoria in North Saanich.

The Gingerbread Showcase is free to view. It runs now until Jan. 3.

• A tour guide showing the locations of the various creations can be picked up at any of the host partners or from any Habitat ReStore, or download it at habitatvictoria.com/gingerbread2020.
