Subaru VIZIV Concept

There are several very important large SUVs on the horizon. Take a closer look at one of them, the VIZIV-7 concept, at the Canadian International AutoShow’s Subaru exhibit

Powertrain: The VIZIV-7 is only a design concept, which means the company has said nothing about what will be under the hood. We can make some educated guesses, though: the Subaru Outback’s sixcylinder boxer engine would be a good fit, and like all Subies it’s bound to have standard all-wheel drive.

Ride: Expect it to feel solid and dependable. The concept shows 21inch wheels and a 2,990 mm wheelbase, longer than many of its competitors, though there’s no guarantee those figures will make it into the final design.

Interior: This concept presents a vision for a three-row, seven-seat Subaru SUV, which would be a first for Subaru since the Tribeca left its lineup in 2014. What materials or configurations might be involved is yet to be seen, but it’s bound to include Subaru’s well-received next-generation infotainment system.

Space and cargo: No official figures are available on this yet, but the VIZIV-7’s sharp angles, squared-off corners and chunky lines offer promising potential to have plenty of space for both people and stuff.

Safety: Nothing has been confirmed at this stage, but once the VIZIV-7 gets a proper name — the current one is derived from the term “vision for innovation” — and heads closer to production, it wouldn’t be surprising to learn it will receive Subaru’s EyeSight suite of camera-based safety features.
