Toronto Police sex crimes detectives were already targeting a human trafficking ring that was allegedly pimping out an underage girl through an online ad.

But what Det.-Sgt. Nunzio Tramontozzi and his team stumbled upon shocked them.

One of the alleged clients was a Toronto doctor.

When the dust settled, they had a case in which a 15-yearold girl was allegedly hired out for sex, a kidney specialist and accusations that the victim received a prescription for birth control after she was violated at a Toronto hospital.

“It’s a very disturbing case,” said Toronto Police spokesman Meaghan Gray.

The first priority was to rescue a girl from the people who were setting her up with clients through the Internet in Toronto hotels. During conversations with the girl came allegations a doctor not only met her for sex in hotels but also brought her into his clinic for more.

Dr. Ernest Chiu, 32, has since been charged with sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, obtaining sexual services from a person under 18 and sexual assault.

Chiu is a specialist in nephrology — diseases of the kidneys. As a physician, Chiu had privileges in St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and the Toronto Rehab and Sinai Health System.

Chiu was released on $10,000 bail at Old City Hall last Friday, reports the Toronto Sun’s Sam Pazzano. His next court appearance is Nov. 16. None of the allegations have been proven in court. He could not be reached for comment.

His bail conditions forbid him from being alone with females under 18 or communicating directly or indirectly with underage females. He’s also forbidden from attending any hotel, motel, Air BnB, Bed and Breakfast Inn, resort, unless accompanied by his surety, Siuchu Lam, 27, who lives at his Bay St. condo.

Chiu is also prohibited from using any electronic device with Internet access, except for educational purposes or while he’s being supervised.

Toronto Police, in a media release, alleged he met the girl in December 2016, after responding to an escort advertisement on the website Backpage.com and “had unprotected sex with her.”

In the months that followed, police alleged, “he met with her at different hotels in the Toronto area and paid to have unprotected sex with her.”

Investigators also claim he would “prescribe her birth control prescriptions and would inject her with the medication.”

Police also describe a meeting at the Toronto General Hospital where he’s accused of having sex with the teen in his workplace and prescribing her medication.

Police executed a search warrant at his home.

“The investigation is ongoing,” said Gray, who added the force’s “priority is to protect vulnerable children from being victims of human trafficking.”
