Al­leged poppy box thief

Toronto Po­lice have re­leased se­cu­rity photos of an al­leged poppy do­na­tion box thief in North York on Re­mem­brance Day.

Po­lice said a man en­tered a re­tail store in the Keele St. and Shep­pard Ave. W. area at 7:37 a.m. on Nov. 11 and once inside, al­legedly took the do­na­tion box from the counter and fled.

He was last seen head­ing in a north­west di­rec­tion on foot.

Mean­while, Durham Re­gional Po­lice have ar­rested an al­leged poppy do­na­tion thief in Oshawa.

Around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 11, a do­na­tion box was stolen from the front counter of the YMCA on Mary St. in Oshawa.

Two days later, of­fi­cers spot­ted a man fit­ting the sus­pect de­scrip­tion.

Den­nis Klawit­ter, 53, from Oshawa is charged with theft un­der $5,000, two counts of breach of pro­ba­tion, pos­ses­sion of mar­i­juana and pos­ses­sion of co­caine.
