Cancer patient dies in crash
A cancer patient on her way to her first radiation treatment was killed when her taxi lost control and hit a bus earlier this month.
Ines Puleio was in a cab on Nov. 1 at Avenue Rd. and Lawrence Ave. in rainy conditions when the taxi driver lost control and struck several vehicles, jumped a curb, hit a fire hydrant and then a TTC bus.
Puleio was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
This is after being diagnosed with breast cancer in August, having a mastectomy and two months of chemotherapy.
“She was winning the battle,” her son, David Puleio, wrote on social media.
“We are struggling trying to cope with the loss and question why? How? The ‘what ifs’ haunt us every day.”
Puleio leaves behind a husband of 38 years, two children and two grandchildren.
“Such a beautiful strong woman who loved with all her being fought a good fight only to have it unfortunately end her life this way,” her son wrote.
Toronto police are still investigating the crash.
The family is struggling with funeral expenses and has set up a Go Fund Me campaign to help with the costs at gofundme. com/3xjuef-funeralcosts.
