Cancer pa­tient dies in crash

A cancer pa­tient on her way to her first ra­di­a­tion treat­ment was killed when her taxi lost con­trol and hit a bus ear­lier this month.

Ines Puleio was in a cab on Nov. 1 at Av­enue Rd. and Lawrence Ave. in rainy con­di­tions when the taxi driver lost con­trol and struck sev­eral ve­hi­cles, jumped a curb, hit a fire hy­drant and then a TTC bus.

Puleio was taken to hos­pi­tal where she was pro­nounced dead.

This is af­ter be­ing di­ag­nosed with breast cancer in Au­gust, hav­ing a mas­tec­tomy and two months of chemo­ther­apy.

“She was win­ning the bat­tle,” her son, David Puleio, wrote on so­cial me­dia.

“We are strug­gling try­ing to cope with the loss and ques­tion why? How? The ‘what ifs’ haunt us ev­ery day.”

Puleio leaves be­hind a hus­band of 38 years, two chil­dren and two grand­chil­dren.

“Such a beau­ti­ful strong woman who loved with all her be­ing fought a good fight only to have it un­for­tu­nately end her life this way,” her son wrote.

Toronto po­lice are still in­ves­ti­gat­ing the crash.
