Shelburne teen participated in training

Tri-County Vanguard - - NEWS -

Last week we ran a story about some Shelburne County teenagers who had participated in a six- week Boatswain’s Mate Course at Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Acadia Cadet Training Centre.

The article and photos were supplied by HMCS Acadia Cadet Training Centre. The training centre gave our newspaper a photo that was identified as Travis Nickerson but it turns out an incorrect photo had been given to us. Unfortunately, their error was not caught until after our Aug. 16 issue of the Tri-County Vanguard went to press.

This is Travis Nickerson who participated in the program. As stated in last week’s article, he said it was a great experience.

“I hope cadets in the future get to experience this as well,” said the 16-year-old Nickerson, a cadet with 180 Saxon Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps who spent four days sailing from Quebec City to Halifax on board HMCS Toronto.

As for whose photo we were given and ran last week, his name was Joshua Hamel of Agnus, Ontario, who also had a great experience.
