If he can generate as much laughter as his 2015 gig did at Th’YARC, comedian James Mullinger will be a happy man on March 17.

“There was such an incredible atmosphere there,” he said.

“It’s rare to end up bantering with the crowd and there was even a standing ovation. It definitely sticks out in my mind as an amazing feeling.”

Mullinger, who moved to Saint John from Britain in 2014 with his wife and two children, has been a busy fellow the past three years.

Part of his last performance in Yarmouth was used in a threeseason television series Blimey! An Englishman in Atlantic Canada with Bell Aliant.

He’s an award-winning writer and enjoys sharing his love of New Brunswick with comedy club audiences and corporate gigs across Canada.

In April 2016 his show at Harbour Station Arena in Saint John was a sell-out, outselling Jerry Seinfeld, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and Jeff Dunham.

Amazon Prime bought his first international standup special for their 85 million subscribers.

“It was obviously a dream come true to have it distributed that widely,” he said.

He’s also raised more than $100,000 for Canadian charities.

Mullinger says towns and cities in the Maritimes have a lot of things in common.

“This show that I’m doing now will be a brand new 90-minute show. Some of it will be specific just for that evening.”

In 2015 there was a hilarious moment where somebody shouted that the Red Knight had replaced the Cape Forchu lighthouse in Trip Advisor’s #1 spot.

“I said ‘ what is the Red Knight?’ and the whole place fell apart laughing,” he said.

“So, I will definitely tell people about the story of us going to the Red Knight after the show, the last time I was here.”

To “Yarmouthize” the show he plans on perhaps bringing a local newspaper on stage to talk about things that have happened in the Performance is Saturday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $15 Seniors and Students $12

He says the night before a show he sometimes likes to do something terrifying. When asked what he had in mind before Yarmouth, he laughed.

“That’s a good question. I think I’m performing in Liverpool the night before. Maybe I’ll be swimming to that gig,” he said in reference to their recent flooding. St. Patrick’s Day at the Osprey on Saturday, March 17 will rock with award winning band Hillsburn.

Award- winning folk rockers Hillsburn hits the Osprey stage in Shelburne for St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, March 17, at 8 p.m.

Touted as “the next big thing” from the East Coast, Hillsburn has been burning up the tour circuit, their path strewn with national and regional awards and nominations.

This performance is one of the first stops on Hillsburn’s crossCanada tour that takes the band from Shelburne through to Toronto and Winnipeg and all the way to Yellowknife where it ends in late July.

Recently, this hard- working band was named New Artist of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Their video for ‘Run Down’ won an East Coast Music Award.

Hillsburn’s music has been described as an original blend of rock, folk, pop and Americana.

The five-piece band is made up of singer songwriter Paul Aarntzen on guitar, multi-instrumentalist Jackson Fairfax-Perry on bass, keys, and saxophone, Clare Macdonald on drums and siblings Rosanna and Clayton Burrill on vocals. Rosanna puts her classical training to use on the violin.

At the show you’ll hear pieces from their first album, the awardwinning ‘In the Battle Years,’ and from their brand new album ‘ The Wilder Beyond.’ While the first album was a folk-rooted masterpiece, this second album is more densely layered and streaked with electric instrumentation.

The band’s soaring three-part harmonies remain a Hillsburn signature, but they’ve also shown that they can rock with the best indie groups.

Hillsburn’s influences are as broad as the comparisons made to their style.

The Wilder Beyond manages to land somewhere in the vast terrain between Aretha Franklin and Arcade Fire while simultaneously sounding fresh and coherent.

Neil Young, Florence and the Machine, Motown – the songs of Hillsburn echo these influences and more.
