Yar­mouth duathlon is Sept. 16

Event con­sists of 5.3K run, 20K bike, then an­other 5.3 K run


Par­tic­i­pants in the re­cent Light­house Triathlon in Yar­mouth leave the Milo Boat Club on the bike por­tion of the event. Milo again will serve as the start/tran­si­tion/fin­ish area Sun­day, Sept. 16, when Yar­mouth’s an­nual duathlon takes place.

One of Yar­mouth’s an­nual ath­letic events will be held on the last of­fi­cial week­end of sum­mer, as the area’s duathlon takes place Sun­day, Sept. 16, with the Milo Boat Club serv­ing as the start and fin­ish.

The event con­sists of two dis­ci­plines – run­ning and biking – start­ing with a 5.3- kilo­me­tre run, fol­lowed by a 20K bike and end­ing with an­other 5.3K run.

The race gets un­der­way at 9 a. m.

It is open to in­di­vid­u­als, as well as teams of two or three peo­ple.

Billed as the Du It for Peg Yar­mouth Duathlon, the event is held in mem­ory of Peggy Royal, who had been ac­tive in the lo­cal rac­ing com­mu­nity and vol­un­teered with the Yar­mouth Y White­caps swim team. She died in 2008 at age 46.

The en­try fee is $ 20 for stu­dents, $ 30 per adult on a team or $ 40 for an adult par­tic­i­pat­ing as an in­di­vid­ual.

The fee in­cludes wa­ter, race sup­port, post- race meal ( along with a shirt for the first 25 peo­ple to reg­is­ter and pay their en­try fee.)

Wa­ter is avail­able for event’s run­ning por­tions.

Duathlon par­tic­i­pants can reg­is­ter in ad­vance in per­son at Run­ner’s At­tic at 346 Main St. in Yar­mouth or on race day start­ing at 8 a. m. ( Cash only for both reg­is­tra­tion op­tions.)

The post- race meal for par­tic­i­pants and vol­un­teers will be held at the boat club, start­ing at 11: 30 a. m. the
