Cervélo $4,500 S5

Triathlon Magazine Canada - - Gear Review Aero Road Bikes -

Cervélohas always been defined by its aero roots – the company started with aerodynamic tri frames and remains the handsdown leader when it comes to the number of bikes ridden in Kona. It made sense, then, for the company to put together a super-fast aero road frame, which it did in the form of the S5. The TrueAero tube shapes and integrated cables throughout are just a few of the many features that help the bike cut through the wind in impressive style, while aerodynamics are enhanced with shielding seat stays that hide the rear brake from the rider, but leave the brake in the optimal position for performance and ease of adjustment. Cervélo has managed to add many aerodynamic qualities you’d expect in a tri frame into a road frame that rides like a top- end road bike. The bike is extremely stiff and responsive, but still glides over bumps and potholes with ease, providing a comfortable ride and outstanding performance. Finish it off with Shimano’s solid Ultegra components and you have a great road bike that’s just begging for some aero bars.
