Felt $3,650 AR4

Triathlon Magazine Canada - - Gear Review Aero Road Bikes -

Anothermainstay in the triathlon realm, it comes as no surprise that Felt has used its tri background to come up with a speedy and aero road frame. Felt boasts improvements to the AR series that take into account real world aerodynamics. The frame’s tubes are sleek at all yaw angles, not just those in a wind tunnel. Thanks to the VariMount seatpost, the effective seat tube angle can be changed from 72.5 degrees to 78.5 degrees, which allows you to set this bike up as a shallow-angled road machine or as steep as a full-f ledged triathlon bike. Add to that the new fork design that is very similar to the DA triathlon frameset and you have a bike that’s more than capable of becoming an exceptional time trial or triathlon rig. Cables tuck into the frame behind the headset and a carbon aero seatpost adds to the aero advantages of the frame. To shed a bit of weight the frame uses Shimano’s Ultegra SL components. The ar4 is stiff enough laterally to be a surprisingly nice climbing machine, while also absorbing lots of road vibration to ensure a comfortable ride.
