Andrew Yorke and Joanna Brown podium in Clermont
Caledon, Ont.’s Andrew Yorke and Carp, Ont.’s Joanna Brown captured silver and bronze respectively at the itu Pan American Cup sprint distance triathlon held at Clermont, Fla.
“I’ve done less training to this point than in previous years because I wasn’t making it through the season and being healthy when it mattered the most,” said Yorke, who covered the course in 56 minutes and 28 seconds. “I’m taking things pretty simple. All the tests and trials show that I’m stronger now than I have been in the past. I’m swimming the best ever. I feel way better on the bike, and the run was good. Everything seems to be on track and that was the point of this weekend.”
“It was a good starting point for me. I can’t say that I was happy with the race, but part of being high performance is also having high standards,” said Brown, who finished in 1:03:48. “I was nervous for the run today. My legs felt really heavy and they weren’t happy to be going right after that bike. All in all it was a great way to shake out the cobwebs and have a punchy start to the season.”
