Standard Distance Elite Triathletes of the Year
Of the three men who are most likely to be going after a spot in Rio next year (along with Andrew Yorke and Kyle Jones), Tyler Mislawchuk gets the nod for the standard distance Triathlete of the Year thanks to a higher final ranking and a top Canadian finish at the World Championships in Chicago. Earlier this year he won the Subic Bay Asian Cup event and managed to sneak into the top 10 at the ITU World Triathlon London and also finished 10th at the Pan Am Games in Toronto, despite racing with a broken rib. The Quebec athlete has been training at the national training centre in Guelph, Ont. over the last year or so, and started the year off with a bang before succumbing to some injuries that hampered her end of year stats. The impressive early season results, included a win at the ITU event in Wollongong, a runner-up finish at the ITU World Cup in Mooloolaba, a 13th place finish at the ITU WTS Series race in the Gold Coast, along with a ninth-place finish at the WTS race in London were enough to give Kretz the title this year.
