Triathletes of the Year

Our collaboration with Triathlon Canada continues this year as we celebrate the Triathletes of the Year and those receiving Tri- Can Excellence Awards. Heather Wurtele and Lionel Sanders lead the way thanks to their impressive winning records, but there are lots more award winners in every category from sprint to full- distance, off-road and duathlon. From its roots almost 150 years ago as a small tailor shop in Italy, Castelli has become one of the world’s premier cycling and triathlon apparel companies. We explore the new Canadian connection for the company thanks to Magog, Quebec’s Pierre Perron. A horrible bike accident in 2008 put Rob Buren in a wheelchair, but that’s hardly slowed him down as he’s pursued his dream of competing in Kona. He did that last year in style, becoming the first Canadian handcycle athlete to finish the race.
