ALEXANDRIA | Training camp is almost done and the main roster is shaping up for the Glens in Alexandria. The team racked up two victories against the Clarence Castors last week and players are ready to relax a bit with the season opener barbecue this Sunday at Chartrand’s YIG. The event is also a meet and greet with the players and an opportunity to chat hockey with the veterans and green horn rookies.
Fifteen players are already confirmed for the 2014-2015 roster, including returning defenceman David Sirois, the Sabourin pack with Pierre-Luc, Tristan and Ryan and also forward Adam Cooke, Luca Ciale and d-man Maxime St-Georges. In goals, Callum Cassidy-Matthews, who with 7 of his 11 starts in the Coast-to-Coast Summer League will team up with Nicholas Maheux, who played 20 games last year with the junior C Gatineau Olympiques of the National Capital Junior Hockey League and a few games for the Junior B Gatineau Mustangs.
The tailgate party will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday and the Glens will have a surprise for the fans during the event. The Glens’ first regular game is scheduled for September 19, at 8 p.m. at the Glengarry Sports Palace. The Morrisburg Lions, whom the Glens beat 3-2 in overtime last winter, will be in town. The day after, the Glens will face their good old rivals from Char-Lan, the Rebels.
At press time Thursday, the Glens were ready to jump on the ice for one final preseason game against the Gatineau Mustangs.
