VCI FINISHES TRACK SEASON
Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute’s track and field team finished the season on a high note after the EOSSAA championships.
“Pleased with the results overall,” said Ken McLeod, one of the co-coaches for VCI’s track and field team this year. “Especially considering that we still draw a large number of participants for a school our size.”
This season, VCI had four athletes entered at the Eastern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (EOSSAA) championships held in Kingston during the last half of May. Top results for VCI saw Logan Hallahan finish seventh in the midget boys 1500-metre long-distance run, putting him one place short of qualifying for the Eastern Regionals which took place also in Kingston, during the last week of May. The top six athletes in all EOSSAA events go on to compete at the Eastern Regionals.
Natalia LaRosa finished in the mid-pack of the midget girls high jump, also almost making the Eastern Regional qualifier mark. Coach McLeod indicated this year’s EOSSAA results plus VCI’s performance earlier in the season at the Prescott-Russell regional championships bodes well for next season.
“We’re looking to build on our successes this season,” he said, “and bring it forward to next year.”
