HAWKS EXPERIENCE FIRST LOSS TO THE BROCKVILLE BRAVES
The Hawkesbury Hawks experienced their first loss of the regular season at the hands of the Brockville Braves.
The Braves came out strong on Friday, September 14, beating the Hawks 4-1 at home. Jeremy Cote opened the scoring of the game with his goal for the Hawks at the end of the first period, with only 24 seconds to spare. This powerplay goal was possible after Braves’ Shane McGrath got a two-minute penalty for a check to the head. Cote would later earn the title of third star of the game for scoring Hawkesbury’s first and only goal.
Fred Allaire tied the game for the Brockville Braves at 8:14 in the second period, assisted by Simon Kerr and Tyler McBay. This was the only goal of the second period.
Nicholas Hawkins scored his first goal, of two, of the game a little over a minute into the third period, to make it 2-1 for the Braves. The Hawks tried to hold on in the rest of the third period, but the Braves came at them with two more goals. Philippe Gilmour and Hawkins sealed the victory for Brockville with their goals, bringing the final score to 4-1.
The match was not without action, however. The Brockville Braves got nine penalties, while the Hawkesbury Hawks got ten of their own. The Braves’ Gilmour was named first star of the game for his one goal and one assist, while Brockville goaltender Liam Souliere was the second star. He saved 25 of 26 shots that came his way.
This loss brings the Hawks’ record to (5-10-0). They play their first game of the season at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex this Friday, September 21 at 7:30 p.m. against the Nepean Raiders.
