HAWKS EXPERIENCE FIRST LOSS TO THE BROCKVILLE BRAVES

The Hawkesbury Hawks ex­pe­rien­ced their first loss of the re­gu­lar sea­son at the hands of the Brockville Braves.

The Braves came out strong on Fri­day, Sep­tem­ber 14, bea­ting the Hawks 4-1 at home. Je­re­my Cote ope­ned the sco­ring of the game with his goal for the Hawks at the end of the first per­iod, with on­ly 24 se­conds to spare. This po­wer­play goal was pos­sible af­ter Braves’ Shane McG­rath got a two-mi­nute pe­nal­ty for a check to the head. Cote would la­ter earn the title of third star of the game for sco­ring Hawkesbury’s first and on­ly goal.

Fred Al­laire tied the game for the Brockville Braves at 8:14 in the se­cond per­iod, as­sis­ted by Simon Kerr and Ty­ler McBay. This was the on­ly goal of the se­cond per­iod.

Ni­cho­las Haw­kins sco­red his first goal, of two, of the game a lit­tle over a mi­nute in­to the third per­iod, to make it 2-1 for the Braves. The Hawks tried to hold on in the rest of the third per­iod, but the Braves came at them with two more goals. Phi­lippe Gil­mour and Haw­kins sea­led the vic­to­ry for Brockville with their goals, brin­ging the fi­nal score to 4-1.

The match was not wi­thout ac­tion, ho­we­ver. The Brockville Braves got nine pe­nal­ties, while the Hawkesbury Hawks got ten of their own. The Braves’ Gil­mour was na­med first star of the game for his one goal and one as­sist, while Brockville goal­ten­der Liam Sou­liere was the se­cond star. He sa­ved 25 of 26 shots that came his way.

This loss brings the Hawks’ re­cord to (5-10-0). They play their first game of the sea­son at the Ro­bert Hart­ley Sports Com­plex this Fri­day, Sep­tem­ber 21 at 7:30 p.m. against the Ne­pean Rai­ders.
