Asian trade mission promoting N.S.
A trade delegation from Nova Scotia left Wednesday for Hong Kong, where it will be promoting trade with this province and investment opportunities in Asia. In 2016 the Nova Scotia-China Engagement Strategy was created to focus on Nova Scotia’s competitive strengths, and build on the province’s relationships in Asia.
Premier Stephen McNeil and Fisheries Minister Keith Colwell will attend the Seafood Expo Asia in Hong Kong with the trade delegation, to promote Nova Scotia’s fastest growing exports to that region. Nova Scotia exports to China in particular have more than doubled since 2013 and continue to increase, reaching a value of $491 million in 2016.
“Nova Scotia has established important relationships with China, Hong Kong and Japan,” said McNeil in a news release Tuesday.
“China is our fastest-growing trading partner and we want to continue to strengthen our relationship and lend support to Nova Scotia businesses and educational institutions . . . active in these areas or interested in pursuing the Asian market.”
