Mastodons win opener at fast­pitch nationals

SASKA­TOON — Don­nelly Archibald blasted a three­run home­run in the bot­tom of the fifth in­ning to lift the East Hants Mastodons to a 5-2 vic­tory over the Bu­lyea Rustlers of Saskatchewan on Wed­nes­day at the Cana­dian se­nior men’s faspitch cham­pi­onship. Stewiacke’s Jay Duffy dou­bled and scored two runs for the Mastodons, who played Saska­toon #5 Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon (visit truro­ for re­sult).

Joel Isenor, an as­sis­tant coach for the Truro Bearcats ju­nior A hockey team, also dou­bled for the Mastodons, while Nick Shailes tripled and drove in a run.

Justin Schofield scat­tered seven hits and struck out nine in a com­plete-game vic­tory. Los­ing pitcher Jo­ram Gra­ham gave up five hits.
