Schmitt wins gold with N.S. under-14 team
TRURO, N.S. — Bible Hill’s Brayden Schmitt helped Nova Scotia capture gold in the under14 male division at the recent Atlantic Challenge Cup hockey tournament in Moncton. Nova Scotia posted a 3-1-1 record and defeated P.E.I. 9-4 in the final. Schmitt, a defenceman who plays for the Truro Bearcats major bantam team, had a goal and an assist.
In the under-15 division, forward Jacob Melanson of the Bearcats major bantam squad, earned gold with Nova Scotia.
The Amherst resident had two goals and four assists as his team went 5-0 and defeated Newfoundland 7-2 in the gold-medal game.
In the under-18 female division, Bible Hill forward Maddie Quinn and Onslow defenceman Lindsay Smith were on Nova Scotia’s bronze-medal winning team. Quinn had a goal for the Bluenose squad, which posted a record of 3-2.
